ABOUT THIS EPISODE

In our Season 1 finale, BTS spouts off on McD’s, their pre-promotion process, who's the best chef in the group, the most challenging part about putting out new music, and deliver a special message for their new fans just starting to binge on BTS.

B. T. S, three letters, seven members, one massive army. That's what makes up the biggest band in the world and that's not a title that we're just throwing around. That's a title that's earned a title that comes with phrases like genre define record breaking and world changing. So how did that happen? How did one group from South Korea go on to not only become a household name but changed the music industry forever. BTS, who's korean name translates to bulletproof Boy Scouts debuted in 2013 with their album Too Cool for School featuring the single No More Dream consisting of members Jin Suga, J, Hope Rm, Jim and V. And John Cook BTS has never been afraid to push the boundaries openly. Talking about the struggles and pressures. South korean youth face mental health and even...

...tragedy. From the very beginning, they knew expressing their personal stories through music was the key to authenticity and in turn an unbreakable bond with their fan base now known as Army Me More than Me. E. T. S first got a taste of touring in the United States back in 2015, but 2017 was the year that marked a pivotal moment for them here in the western market. Their album, Wings, which brought Us blood, sweat and Tears, was not only the highest selling but highest charting K pop album in the US. To date. Since then, E. T. S. Has continued to tap the US music industry by collaborating with Halsey, steve Aoki, the Chain Smokers and more. However, it was one single in particular that named BTS, the first korean group to achieve a number one single in the US. Following the massive...

...success of Dynamite E. T. S has only solidified their spot at number one. With the continued 2021 english releases of butter and permission to dance in the eight years since their debut, BTS has broken down barriers cross genres and smashed records most recently, becoming the first artist to earn five number one singles within a 10.5 month period, tied only by Michael Jackson and the Beatles. My name is eric Zachary. This is the Spot podcast where famous people spout off about more than their famous for and today, that's BTS. What's up guys? Bt s gentlemen, how are we feeling Big Jack curry? We're feeling very good. How you doing? I bet man, I am doing so good, excited to be talking you guys within the last 24 hours, breaking your own record on Youtube butter with over 10 Million views in 13 minutes, like four...

...million of which were like the second that it came out. So wrap applause on that. Yeah. You know, I've always been so impressed with how you guys handle at BTS release, whether it's a song and album, a concert announced merch. You know, it's just so cool to watch from the sidelines, everything from the pre promotion to the teases in the case of butter the countdown, the mysterious countdown that got everyone talking. What is your favorite part about the pre promotion process? Like obviously we know the fans hearing the song for the first time is crazy, but what about everything leading up to that? Uh were Koreans were like it fast, We're like a swift, so it's so hard for us to wait for this whole process, you know when the teacher is coming out, when the photos are coming out um those are so exciting, but it really stressful as well. But You know, we love just a moment when people listen to the song for the first time is like, like, like panic and like, you know, like, like freak out. That's the that's the most thrilling part. An exciting part that...

...we love. Yeah, so everything that contributes to the building excitement and the intensity up into the moment. two instant that the video drops and then getting to see the panic, good panic that ensues when army, here's a BTS released for the first time. So speaking of first times, you know, you guys are our first return guests here on this about podcast. You first appeared on our very first episode with Tino Cappuccino and welcome back first and foremost. But second, I kind of have a gripe with you guys because you told Tino that you enjoy pineapple on pizza. Does pineapple belong on pizza? Everyone loves How are you? How are you? Hi, I'm peter. Yeah, I love it. I love it. I love it. Now. This is a controversial thing here in the States. So we take our pizza seriously personally. I'm seeing no pineapple, but I understand everyone has their own taste buds and likes and dislikes. So...

...that got me thinking what other unique combinations of food is BTS Like, wow, that's so controversial. That's, that's not even controversial. This, this is like a whole nother level. You're just doing this on purpose. Now. I see you guys, I see what you're doing gym is like, nope, not me, keep you out of this. So dangerous. It is dangerous. Yeah, But hey, that's a perfect transition. You guys got the BTS, Mcdonald's meal coming out. Now. I've seen other artists do this. There's been some awesome collapse, but I think you guys are kind of doing it best. You got the repackaging of the meal. You have the online exclusive downloads, you've got the korean sauce at A lot of people have never gotten to try before, but there's no toy. I totally get it right. This isn't a happy meal at least for this launch. But they got me thinking if you were to make it BTS happy meal, let's say you teamed up with Mcdonald's in the future, what would a BTS toy look like? What would...

...be included? I, okay, I like that you're leaning into the nostalgia of Mcdonald's toys to not something super modern, but like throwbacks. Maybe like a fanny pack of BTS, fanny pack would be dope. You never know, you never know. And to go off of food to, we've already established the pineapple debate so we can put that outside for a second. But when you guys aren't on the road are going to restaurants are getting catering. What are you doing at home? Are you cooking for yourself? Are there any chefs in the group? What are we making, jean and sugar? Maybe Jenna sugar and boiled to change about this now, Shannon. Okay. Please video now today. Oh yeah, sure. Hold on.

Yeah, yeah, Yeah. I'm a kimchi fan. I've never tried kimchi pancakes though. So that would be really cool. You guys should look at doing like a BTS cookbook or sharing your recipes, but the fans would love that. Yeah, let's go. Let's go. We can get impatient when we want more BTS things,...

...but you guys also want to get it. Perfect. So what about putting out new music takes the longest? What is the hardest thing to get right? I can't even imagine. And that just makes it so much more impressive. The songs are already bangers, they're already hit. But the fact that you're conveying the same amount of love, same amount of talent and passion in tracks that are in english, not your first language, there's people hearing dynamite and now butter on the radio that might not even realize that, you know, that that makes that so much more commendable. Now with that said, you guys are getting the radio play in the western markets finally that you deserve. So a lot more people are learning about BTS, right? They've seen you guys on the award shows with maybe they've seen the television performances, but now that we have that constant radio play with dynamite and now, but er there's a lot of people looking you guys up on Spotify and apple music going, okay, what else do they have? So, for fans that are just...

...joining army for the newer army members here, do you have a message for the people that are experiencing and binging? The older BTS tracks going through the old records? So, first things First, welcome to the team. Um Welcome. And there are some actually some fun chapters before Dynamite. Um there's some dynamite chapters right now, we're in like, like, like our fourth chapter, but first chapter, there was school. Um the second chapter, there was kind of like uh the most beautiful moment in life and the third chapter we Got Love yourself, Medford is so so there's some actually narrative that we have walk this way and path and there are a lot of songs, a lot of albums, a lot of behind the scenes literally BTS is and you know, the videos, social media, so maybe it'll take a year to, you know, chase all the past things of BTS. So there's no exit, there's no kind of get out. So...

...welcome to the team. Please don't, don't go out, have a good time, have a great day story. Just enjoy the ride. I love that, you know, experience everything that led up to this point, live in the moment and then look forward to and get excited about the future of BTS.
